I just realized, I've never posted anything about this major part of my life. I am an orchestral trumpet player by training. I didn't play much over the last few years but have really hit it hard lately and am realizing all over again how much I really love it. About the horn: Believe it or not, this trumpet was built in 2001. The reason it looks so old is because it doesn't have the thin layer of laquer or silver over the raw brass that many trumpets do. It was made for me by a small company in Portland by Dave Monette. There is the option to finish it in gold or silver, but I preferred to leave it raw. Monette trumpets are each hand made, customized to each trumpeters' playing style. There is lengthy interview process and around a 1 year wait list. I made plenty of trips to the shop as the horn was being built so Dave and crew could listen to my playing and help get it "dialed in" for me. They were never too busy to hang out and order in an Indian food lunch and "talk shop" for a bit. Monette has supplied trumpets for dudes like Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Ron Miles, and Manny Laureano.
